I’m Zaleigh- The creator of sondersewing
I am a self-taught seamstress and designer. My sewing journey began around the age of 14, when I started learning how to sew through YouTube videos and online tutorials. I had the urge to learn for about a year before I actually started. Once I did, I began posting my progress on social media, and soon after, I started receiving requests for custom orders. I was challenged to create all kinds of projects I probably wouldn’t have attempted otherwise, and that experience shaped my skills more than I realized at the time.
A few years later, I knew I wanted to begin guiding others on their own sewing journeys. In 2024, I finally started teaching small in-person lessons—and that’s when I knew this was what I wanted to keep doing. Shortly after, I had the opportunity to teach my first four-week beginner sewing series at How Bazar, a worker-owned cultural hub in Gainesville, Florida. Seeing how many people were excited to learn how to sew was honestly surreal.
After months of reflecting, planning, and brainstorming, I officially launched SonderSewing on January 1st, 2025.
The word sonder means the profound realization that every random person you see is living a life as complex and vivid as your own—filled with their own stories, worries, ambitions, and routines. I truly believe people are meant to create and express themselves. I view sewing, and any other form of creating, as a journey. SonderSewing was created to guide and inspire others on their own creative journeys through sewing, with the hope of unlocking even more creativity within them.
As I said, this is all a journey, and I’m so excited to continue finding new ways to guide others. It is my passion and mission to do this through workshops, tutorials, sewing ideas, and useful sewing resources as time goes on.
